Tensioning Brake & Take-up Retriever

If you’ve ever tried tensioning wire with a sub-par brake, you will recall the panic when the line starts surging and you have difficulty maintaining tension, a scenario most often experienced because the tensioning brake was made from steel components that have rusted in place.

Our all-bronze tensioning brake does not rust and offers precision braking that is guaranteed to be smooth and controlled by our patented ventilated bronze disc braking system. Components are modular for easy serviceability. The 16″ Ventilated bronze disc rotor of our standard Model 1602 brake is machined from a single casting providing the industry’s best performance for distribution wire stringing, and is available on trailers, frames and as a retrofit to existing equipment.

Although there are a lot of “off the shelf” hydraulic valves to choose from, we configure your valve(s) specifically for the application. For example, a multi-section valve is specified with stainless steel spools for cylinder or motor circuits, marine paint, and grease in the end caps.

Our versatile Take-Up Retriever integrates with any Sauber brake without modification. This enhancement is designed to pull through short spans of new conductor and salvage wire. Optional hydraulically activated calipers are ideal for remotely controlling braking tension on elevated platforms. Multiple reels can be controlled from a single operator’s station. With 2600 ft-lbs of torque controlled by a full feathering valve, this tool changes normally back breaking work into a faster and safer operation.

Model 1610 12″ Overspin Disc Brake

Some jobs call for a moderate amount of tensioning that benefit from control but also provide peace of mind to the operator. Our 12″ Ventilated bronze disc brake outperforms other solutions with rust free materials and 700 ft-lbs. of torque. Ideal for precise overspin control or proper tension into a bull wheel application.

Positioning Collar & Sleeves

Our reel positioning system provides the easiest to use method of reel securement providing a secure, positive clamping hold for your reels. The bronze collar includes a 7000# lifting hook with a non-galling, stainless steel tapered bolt holds the reel firmly on the bar. All components are non-rusting to ensure long life in the harshest environments. Along with the integral reel bar lifting hook, these collars provide automatic load line centering for each reel change outs.

Reel bar diameters up to 3” can be accommodated and a complete array of stepped and tapered sleeves are available to fit any application.

Almag Capstans

Our capstans are made from lightweight aluminum-magnesium, which reduces operator fatigue and lessens the risk of back injuries. They are completely non-rusting and have the highest strength to weight ratio of any as-cast aluminum alloy. An encapsulated spring cannot become loose or fall out, with no detached parts to go missing. Choose between a variety of sizes and styles to fit your requirements. Model 1010-SR Hydraulic Power Source

With the convenience of electric start, this commercial grade Kohler engine offers reliable power. A digital hour meter, analog filter condition gauge, oil quality/level gauge and pressure and flow control keep your maintenance goals on track. A pump suction strainer and quality filtration keep contaminants out of your hydraulic system. A built-in oil cooler provides passive hydraulic oil cooling that protects your power source components. Non-rusting Almag cast cover and aluminum tank are extremely durable and provide the foundation to maximize uptime and contribute to the extended life our customers deserve. Our compact design and superior engineering make this unit the perfect choice for powering multi-reel flow divider applications or where exceptional motor speed and power is required. EZ-Up Jack

Why spend time cranking a jack? We designed this swing away jack that requires minimal cranking before simply swinging into the horizontal position.  With an easy-to-use handle and no pins, it easily rotates 90° for horizontal travel, providing maximum ground clearance. Jacks can be fitted with sand shoes or non-rusting swivel casters. All include a simple retainer for the jack handle when not in use.

Stainless-Steel Toolboxes

We are pleased to offer a premium line of custom stainless-steel toolboxes with an outstanding feature set at responsible prices. These heavy-duty toolboxes are built from 14-gauge stainless steel. 304 Polished stainless steel strap hinges feature Delrin bushings for low-friction opening and closure. A sealed compression latch and rubber gasketing ensure a weather and road-proof compartment. We always add panel stiffeners and gas shocks for larger dimensioned panels. Being a fully-customizable toolbox; dividers, bins, shelves, hooks and other requirements can be added.

Bent Mainframes

Why are bent frame tubes so important?

Look at the frames on vehicle chassis.  You will find very little welding.  Engineering a design with fewer welds provides structural benefits and is an intelligent thing to do.

Our Bent Structural Tube Trailer Frame has superior, uniform strength throughout the frame. A welded trailer A-frame has stress concentrations at the weld area’s heat-affected zone. A welded A-frame cannot possess the toughness inherent in a continuous, bent tube frame.

Inspection of this type of weld area is challenging because the joint is hidden by multiple weld passes. While this is common for many weld areas, this critical area presents unique challenges. Correct and repeatable steps are necessary. Both sides of the frame must have correctly executed, beveled angle cuts so that they join perfectly with no gaps. At the joint, the beveled surfaces must create a V-groove with the correct dimensions to allow weld penetration. Importantly, none of these aspects can be inspected after welding the joint, nor can the strength of the frame be verified. Additionally, the welded area has a discontinuous surface that is more susceptible to rust and deterioration over time, affecting the strength of the frame.

Our Bent Structural Tube Construction has none of these variables. It is stronger than a welded A-frame every time.

All-Weather Wheel Chocks

Specify Sauber Mfg. Co. All-Weather Wheel Chocks for safety. The grip strut face locks wheels tight on all surfaces in all weather conditions. The chock face grips tight to the tire surface while the motion of the tire wedges the chock between the wheel and the ground. The orange urethane grip handle is highly visible and reminds users to deploy and retrieve it. It is comfortable and easy to grip with gloved or bare hands.

Wheel Nut Indicators

During their daily safety check, your operator will be immediately aware of two potentially dangerous conditions with a quick look at our standard wheel nut indicators.  The indicator may be pointing outside the circle pattern which will signal that a wheel nut has loosened. The indicator may also have started to blister and distort which indicates it has been exposed to temperatures above 240° which could be an indication of brake or bearing issues.  A simple feature, but one that makes a Sauber trailer simpler and safer to operate.

We utilize an LED sealed beam/wiring system w/ stop/turn/tail lights recessed in fully enclosed tube bumper to meet FMVSS 108. Sealed wiring harnesses with no junction boxes or spliced connections. SAE 7-way socket protected top sides and back w/ Almag housing. 1100-52 sealed breakaway w/ charging circuit and LED battery condition indicator w/ 450 C.C.A. maintenance free battery. All trailers include our standard 12′ Coiled Jumper Cord w/ Zinc Die Cast 7-Way SAE Plugs.

Hot dipped galvanized finish is standard across our entire line of trailers.

Experience counts and you can count on weldments and equipment designs which optimize the benefits of hot dipped galvanizing. We include bolt-on cargo decking that is flat and safe to walk on. In addition, we provide accessories in hot dipped galvanized whenever feasible. Often, we’ll provide axle components in galvanized finish.  In fact, all our trailer wheels are galvanized as well.
