Model 1602 All Bronze 16″ Tensioning Brake

If you’ve ever tried to tension wire with a brake that has rusted, you will recall the panic when the line is surging and the difficulty you had maintaining tension. That scenario is most often experienced because the tensioning brake was made from steel components that have rusted in place.

Here, precision braking is guaranteed to be smooth and controlled by our patented ventilated bronze disc braking system. Components are all bronze, and modular for easy serviceability. The 16″ Ventilated bronze disc rotor is machined from a single casting and provides 3000 ft-lbs. torque. The industry’s best performance for distribution wire stringing.

Model 1610 12″ Overspin Disc Brake

Some jobs call for a moderate amount of tensioning that benefit from control but also provide peace of mind to the operator. Our 12″ Ventilated bronze disc brake outperforms other solutions with rust free materials and 700 ft-lbs. of torque. Ideal for precise overspin control or proper tension into a bull wheel application.

8″ Overspin Disc Brake

If you’ve ever had a reel free-spin and unwind wire on you, you will appreciate even this small, 8″ diameter ventilated bronze disc brake w/ manually activated calipers capable of 100 ft-lbs. of overspin torque. Simple to operate and adjust giving you control of the reel.

Stainless-Steel Toolboxes

We are pleased to offer a premium line of custom stainless-steel toolboxes with an outstanding feature set at responsible prices. These heavy-duty toolboxes are built from 14-gauge stainless steel. 304 Polished stainless steel strap hinges feature Delrin bushings for low-friction opening and closure. A sealed compression latch and rubber gasketing ensure a weather and road-proof compartment. We always add panel stiffeners and gas shocks for larger dimensioned panels. Being a fully-customizable toolbox; dividers, bins, shelves, hooks and other requirements can be added.

EZ-Up Jack

Why spend time cranking a jack? We designed this swing away jack that requires minimal cranking before simply swinging into the horizontal position.  With an easy-to-use handle and no pins, it easily rotates 90° for horizontal travel, providing maximum ground clearance. Jacks can be fitted with sand shoes or non-rusting swivel casters. All include a simple retainer for the jack handle when not in use.

Hitch Extension

Designed to help reduce the risk of jack-knifing, our fully adjustable hot dipped galvanized steel hitch extensions can be rotated for additional height options. They provide clearance between the trailer tongue and towing vehicle to avoid encumbrances like steps and tail shelves. We use only grade 8, North American certified bolts for attachment. Socket Housing

Little or no protection for the electrical connection between tow vehicle and trailer can cause a maintenance disaster and risk of an accident if it fails. Our strong Almag housing unit that secures your socket system provides electrical wiring with a non-rusting and secure environment for years of hard labor. Specify the plug type when ordering. Solar Battery Box

Trailer breakaway compliance is an often-underserved element of trailer electrical systems. Breakaway batteries may not receive the attention they require. Given the exposure involved, we include our 4-Watt stainless steel battery box combined with a 450 CCA battery as standard equipment on all electric brake trailers and electric start Hydraulic Power Sources. This system is impervious to the elements and ensures power is available when called into service.
Section 393.43 of the Federal Code states that a breakaway system “. . . shall be provided to maintain application of the brakes on the trailer in such case for at least 15 minutes.” Low-power lantern or motorcycle-type small battery systems commonly provided clearly cannot meet this Federal requirement.

8805 Almag Outrigger Jack

The standard Model 8805 Almag Outrigger Jack offers simple, reliable use through better design and materials. With no fasteners and no rusting parts, simply move the bronze latch to raise and lower the Almag Jack Leg into position and replace the latch. It is that simple.

Bent Mainframes

Why are bent frame tubes so important?

Look at the frames on vehicle chassis.  You will find very little welding.  Even when structures like cross members need to be attached, it’s generally done with fasteners.  Providing good welds is a necessary part of trailer building.  Engineering out of welds where possible provides structural benefits and is an intelligent thing to do.

 A bent tube frame is superior because:

• It provides uniform strength throughout the frame by eliminating the stress concentrations common in the heat affected zone caused by welding.
• The welded area does not have the toughness that is inherent in a continuous bent tube frame.
• The weld area is difficult to inspect because the joint is hidden after it is welded.  This is true for other welds as well but, in this critical area, there are unique challenges.  An angled cut is required and the accuracy of this cut and the resulting joint can not be verified after the tube is welded.  The tube walls should be beveled prior to the weld application and this cannot be determined after the fact without cutting the tube apart.  The V-groove weld that results is difficult to ensure full joint penetration on the hidden base of the joint.
• Welding provides a discontinuous surface that is more susceptible to rust formation and this deterioration through time can affect the strength of the joint.
• Just as a casting can provide uniformity of shape and character, a bent frame does not possess the variability introduced by cutting, beveling, bending, and welding the joint

Specify Sauber Mfg. Co. All-Weather Wheel Chocks for safety. The grip strut face locks wheels tight on all surfaces in all weather conditions. The chock face grips tight to the tire surface while the motion of the tire wedges the chock between the wheel and the ground. The orange urethane grip handle is highly visible and reminds users to deploy and retrieve it. It is comfortable and easy to grip with gloved or bare hands.

Wheel Nut Indicators

During their daily safety check, your operator will be immediately aware of two potentially dangerous conditions with a quick look at our standard wheel nut indicators.  The indicator may be pointing outside the circle pattern which will signal that a wheel nut has loosened. The indicator may also have started to blister and distort which indicates it has been exposed to temperatures above 240° which could be an indication of brake or bearing issues.  A simple feature, but one that makes a Sauber trailer simpler and safer to operate.

Trailer Lighting Standards

We utilize an LED sealed beam/wiring system w/ stop/turn/tail lights recessed in fully enclosed tube bumper to meet FMVSS 108. Sealed wiring harnesses with no junction boxes or spliced connections. SAE 7-way socket protected top sides and back w/ Almag housing. 1100-52 sealed breakaway w/ charging circuit and LED battery condition indicator w/ 450 C.C.A. maintenance free battery. All trailers include our standard 12′ Coiled Jumper Cord w/ Zinc Die Cast 7-Way SAE Plugs.

Hot dipped galvanized finish is standard across our entire line of trailers.

Experience counts and you can count on weldments and equipment designs which optimize the benefits of hot dipped galvanizing. We include bolt-on cargo decking that is flat and safe to walk on. In addition, we provide accessories in hot dipped galvanized whenever feasible. Often, we’ll provide axle components in galvanized finish.  In fact, all our trailer wheels are galvanized as well.
